Discrimination is wrong.
My father and mother are fine with it as long as I never talk about it. My friends don’t mind at all as long as I never bring it around them. My co-workers pretend I’m not by never engaging me in simple conversation.
As long as they get the watered down version of me they’re happy. As long as they don’t have to think about who I love they accept me. As long as I don’t flaunt my other side everything is peaceful.
For them.
A part of me is dying, fading away to nothing. Hiding who I am and who I love for the benefit of others. Being only half of my true self.
So I love you mom and dad, I need you my friends, I respect you my co-workers.
Let me introduce you to me. I love, need and respect myself also. This is my life, and it is my job to take care of me. I refuse to let half of myself drown while I’m around you anymore. Because even though my one half is terrific…my whole being is phenomenal. Don’t worry, I’ll show you the way.
It’s time to throw a pebble in the pond.

Wonderful flash.
Let’s hope that everyone gets to be happy just being themselves but more so let’s pray that no one needs courage to be the person they were meant to be because we start seeing change and acceptance of everyone as individuals.
Too often we live our lives to make others comfortable, no matter how it makes us feel. I’m not saying we need to run rough-shod over people’s feelings, but no one should ever have to hide their true selves to make someone else feel comfortable. Nicely done.
Love is love and everyone has the right to be loved.
Love should always triumph over hate and I believe it always will!
Thank you for taking part in the hop

Nobody should have to hide who they are or who they love.
Presently working in the mental health field, I see the pain and heartache that it causes individuals everyday to hide parts of themselves. Sadly, there are those that should be helping others and end up doing more harm than good. I hope that this country continues to take steps toward full equality.
I look forward to the day when everyone will be able to love and marry who they want. No one should have to hide who they are or who they love.

What a powerful message being sent with so few words.
A post with lots of impact.
This is what’s terrible about homophobia: the way it prevents people from fully being who they are.
I showed a bunch of these post to the teens in my family to show them how hurt some “innocent” remarks are to many others. I get so annoyed when my nephew says “you’re so gay”. ERRRR drove me crazy. I know he didn’t mean anything by it but it is so wrong to use that as a saying. I think that these post have helped. Thank you all for sharing with us!

We can’t hide who we are no matter what! Thanks for the blog.

Having to be one ounce less of who you truly are in order to make those around you more comfortable is totally unacceptable. Living a lie may be easier in the short run but I think it makes it harder to come out later. It is sad that people would rather be lied to by their LGBT family/friends instead of getting to know who these people really are.

I don’t think you should ever have to hide who you are. I believe you should be free to be yourself, this is supposed to be a free country after all. And we are supposed to all be treated equally.

I think hiding yourself is one of the most heartbreaking things to do, and no one should go through life hiding who they are. It sucks!
Those are beautiful, beautiful words. Wow, took my breath away. Who wrote it?
It’s heartbreaking when someone has to hide who he/she is to keep the peace. There are those who get accepted when they come out, those who get rejected, and then there are those in between. I think that last group is often forgotten. Thanks for the reminder.
I am having a feeling of deja vu here. Pretty sure I just read that same piece just a few blogs ago on the hop. It still has the same effect of tearing me up a little though and cannot be said too many times.
Hopefully one day there will be no need for such a blog hop at all because homophobia will no longer exist and everyone will have the right to love who they want to.
“Because even though my one half is terrific…my whole being is phenomenal.” — I love this! We are more than our sexuality.

We had a family reunion not so long ago. One of my cousins who I know (and most of my family knows) is gay was there. Nobody mentioned it. There were gay jokes and what made me horrified and sad, some of them were told by my gay cousin. I didn’t know what to do, how to show him my support. It stills bothers me, weeks after the reunion.

I agree, discrimination is wrong in any form, and people are people, and all deserving of love.

Love is love. Why is it I can marry the man the I love in my state but my friend can’t marry the man that he loves. He has to go out of state, if I’m privileged enough to be invited to attend their union, I will go to whatever state will allow them the marriage they deserve.

That was beautiful. Thank you so much for that. No one should have to hide a part of themselves like that. Thanks again for sharing and participating.

I hate that someone has to hide who they are. I hate that people think they can tell someone who they can or cannot love. I HATE that the world is so ignorant and hateful about people they don’t even know.
There are many things someone can hate but the one thing I won’t ever understand Is how someone can hate a member of their own family in a matter of seconds just because they’ve admitted they’ve fallen in love. Why should it matter that it’s someone of the same sex? They are your family members whom they’ve grown up with, someone they KNOW. How can they just turn on them? How can they hate strangers just because they love? I’ll never understand that kind of hate..
